Undergrowth in Alice Springs Undergrowth @ Watch This Space Gallery On Friday 31st March, Undergrowth screened the Snapshots of the Resolution DVD at the Watch This SPACE artist run gallery in Alice Springs, NT. As part of the screening Undergrowth also held a small exhibition of works from thefirst five issues of Undergrowth magazine, featuring works by Paul Kalemba, Gage, The Contextual Villains, Halska Masash, Beth Sometimes, Miles Allinson and more. Anti-Nuke Dump stall The Arid Lands Environment Centre (ALEC) also came along to raise funds for the anti-nuclear waste dump campaign. The Radioactive Waste Facility would be a repository for nuclear waste produced by all Australian states and is currently being planned for installation in the centre, much to the opposition of pretty much everyone and anyone who lives there. Yellowcake for sale! I spoke to Nat Walsey from the Anti-Nuclear Waste Dump campaign on the night, who explained to me that although this first dump is planned for only low-level radioactive waste, as Australia increases it's uranium exports in the coming year, the Government's rhetoric for storing other countries radioactive waste has already increased. The long and the short of it is, the more we promote this dangerous and poisonous fuel source, the more we will all have to deal with the outcomes of it in the future. From the indigenous communities who oppose the mining of yellowcake on their land, to the environmental activists who want to promote renewable energy technologies, and limit the amount of nuclear waste being produced in the world the nuclear energy industry is opposed in Australia at every angle - and this is why we have not gone down this road for our own energy fuel source. DJ Mustapha Thanks to Nat, Keiren, Scott, The NT Film Office, and Watch This Space Gallery for all of your help! xx Tim Film Screening
